Pediatric Dentistry

Scheduling regular visit to a dentist is the first step to promoting good oral hygiene in your children. Pediatric x-ray sensors are smaller than traditional sensors to accommodate smaller mouths and make it easier for children while taking dental x-rays. The dentist and dental hygienist will provide dental learning tools to teach young kids the importance of daily brushing and flossing.

Mouthguards

Different types of mouthguards are available to maintain your oral health as you perform your daily activities. If you suffer from bruxism (tooth grinding during sleep), stock mouthguards can be readily purchased from your local retailer to protect your teeth throughout the night. Alternatively, your dentist can obtain a mold of your teeth to create a custom mouthguard for more comfort and durability. Boil and bite protectors are another type of mouthguard used by athletes participating in aggressive contact sports.

Laser Procedures

Soft tissues lasers are used in surgical procedures making them much less invasive with better healing. The soft tissue laser can be used in exposing implants, removing fibromas and other growths and performing biopsies and assisting in crown procedures.

Sedation Dentistry

Oral conscious sedation is used to sedate patients during dental procedures. It involves a weak sedative taken orally the night before, and the morning of the procedure. It requires more sedation administered orally by the Dentist the day of the procedure, and then the procedure is completed. Oral conscious sedation requires a driver to and from the appointment, as well as a caretaker after the appointment.

Scaling and Root Planing

Scaling and Root planing is an effective deep cleaning procedure to remove hardened plaque (calculus or tartar) below the gum line in the deeper pockets around the teeth. This prevents the pockets from deepening which would eventually result in bone loss around the teeth, which causes teeth to loosen and be lost.

Nitrous Oxide

More commonly referred to as “laughing gas”, nitrous oxide is a safe anesthetic administered throughout a number of dental procedures. Laughing gas is one of many types of anesthetics used in sedation dentistry. Laughing gas is effective at relieving anxiety without the need for sedation, and the effects subside immediately after the nitrous oxide is turned off, enabling you to drive home after the dental procedure.
